Two new service capabilities that enhance the underwriting process. ExpressPort is our new PC-based software system for viewing lab results as well as ordering underwriting requirements. Portamedic Select is a new service based at Heritage Labs. Portamedic Select provides a comprehensive process for gathering together and managing all of the requirements needed for the underwriting process.
One challenge of the insurance underwriting process is to promptly obtain the necessary information to properly underwrite an insurance application. The role of the agent and the basis for their compensation is evolving as e-commerce and electronic access to customers in the market place increases. Many insurance companies are seeking ways to off-load the ordering of requirements from the agent into a centralized process where the requirements can be easily ordered, tracked and expeditiously delivered to the underwriting department. Through our partnership with Portamedic, Heritage Labs introduces ExpressPortTM, a PC-based LAN compatible software system that allows the most common underwriting requirements to be ordered right from the underwriting department.
ExpressPort provides bi-directional, electronic connectivity to Portamedic, InfoLink, Teledex and Heritage Labs. The System can operate as a stand-alone system, or our server can be interfaced into your LAN system. Your LAN connected desktop computers can then be populated with the ExpressPort software system for direct access to the ExpressPort server right from the underwriter's desk.
Through the ExpressPort System, requests for paramedical exams from Portamedic can be electronically placed with Portamedic. Inspection Reports, Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR), Attending Physicians Statements (APS) can be ordered directly from InfoLink through the ExpressPort System. To expedite the delivery of Part II exams, Heritage can digitally scan exams and other documents being piggybacked with the lab kit and deliver the right into ExpressPort. These imaged documents can then be printed out along with the applicant's lab results or be electronically stored on your LAN system.
When your underwriting requirements are ordered and delivered via ExpressPort, the system provides you with daily status of each and every order request. This allows you to easily evaluate the time for having specific requirements turned around. Such information proves valuable to manage and optimize requirements for underwriting based on cost and length of time for fulfillment.
If you're looking for an efficient process to order Exams, Inspections, APS and MVR reports. Information on using Heritage Labs and ExpressPort in your underwriting operation will be provided to help you evaluate these new on-line capabilities. For our customers currently using the Heritage Applicant Results Tracking program, information on a software upgrade to the ExpressPort System will be provided.
When Heritage Labs and Portamedic became business partners through the majority acquisition of Heritage Labs by Hooper Holmes in 1998, both organizations began to look at the ways we could develop enhanced services for our shared customers, the life & disability insurance companies across North America. Many of these developments have been integrated into Portamedic Select, a comprehensive process for gathering together the underwriting requirements needed to initiate the underwriting process.
An attractive feature of Portamedic Select is that you can pick and choose the elements of the comprehensive services that can enhance and expedite your Company's process for gathering & managing underwriting requirements. Of course, needs may differ depending on the processes currently in use. With Portamedic Select, the overall time from Application to Policy Issuance can be reduced by 5 to 10 days. In the highly competitive marketplace of insurance, the first to issue the policy will most likely place the business permanently. Numerous actuarial studies have shown that Placement Ratios improve in direct proportion to reductions in the policy issue time.
